Frequently Asked Questions

How does plant identification work?

Take a photo of any houseplant and Fernie uses AI to analyze its visual features — leaf shape, color, texture, and growth pattern — to identify the species. You'll get up to three possible matches ranked by confidence.

How accurate is the identification?

Fernie is highly accurate for common houseplants. For best results, take a clear, well-lit photo that shows the plant's leaves up close. Each identification includes a confidence score so you know how certain the result is.

Are my photos stored?

No. Your photos are processed securely and are not stored on our servers after the request completes. See our Privacy Policy for details.

How are watering schedules determined?

Fernie considers the plant species, your pot size, pot material, and location to recommend a watering interval. Porous pots like terracotta dry out faster, while plastic and ceramic retain moisture longer.

Is Fernie safe to use around pets?

Fernie includes pet and child safety alerts in every care guide. However, always verify toxicity information with a veterinarian or poison control center before relying on it for safety decisions.
